For the first time in almost 25 years, Polk is launching a new SDA speaker, the Polk Legend L800. The Legend L800 column speaker has new patents that are based on the initial goal of SDA technology, which is to maintain complete stereo separation from the source to our ears. Thanks to this, the L800 produces the most natural and detailed stereo image Polk has ever offered. The speakers seem to disappear as the sound images fill the listening room with astonishing realism. This is achieved by minimizing the distortion inherent in all stereo speakers, a characteristic known as interaural crosstalk (IAC), by employing a second column of speakers called a dimensional array. Conventional speakers limit what you hear because they fail to maintain complete stereo separation from the source to our ears. New dual 1" (25.4 mm) Pinnacle tweeters add incredibly clear highs, and two new turbine-cone midrange woofers provide smooth, detailed midrange frequencies in the critical listening area. Two 10" (254 mm) woofers and the incorporation of the newly optimized Enhanced Power Port technology allow for an unparalleled level of clarity, balance, depth and detail. Legend L800 are the most spectacular and best-sounding SDA speakers ever created by Polk.
Polk's SDA speakers were the first truly stereo speakers because they were capable of maintaining stereo separation from the source to our ears. By acoustically isolating the two stereo channels, each ear hears only the stereo channel that corresponds to it. The left ear hears the left channel and the right ear hears the right channel. The recordings literally come to life in the living room. Musical images are reproduced clearly and with great precision. The listener is immersed in a stunning three-dimensional soundstage that extends from wall to wall (in width), from floor to ceiling (in height) and both in front of and behind the speakers (in depth). Only Polk SDA speakers allow you to hear the full breadth and naturalness of the original sound. What's more, the sound image is not clouded or altered by placing the speakers too far away. And because SDA technology uses no DSP or sound processing, it is 100% compatible with current home theater audio formats, including Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Virtualization Technology, DTS:X, DTS:X Virtual, and IMAX. Enhanced.
Conventional bass reflex ports make noise (chug) and mask the low frequencies you want to hear. Thanks to the new design with Enhanced Power Port® technology, airflow smoothly passes from the speaker to the listening area, allowing for stronger, clearer bass while minimizing vibration, distortion and port noise. Polk has optimized its famous Power Port technology specifically for the Legend series, precisely tuning the flared geometry of the bass reflex port. The difference is heard and felt; Polk's Enhanced Power Port® technology produces less port noise and stronger, clearer bass than traditional ported speakers. Two 10" (254 mm) long-excursion, long-throw woofers provide deep, detailed, natural bass for music and home theater.
For the ultimate listening experience, the L800 can be used for the front of any home theater or as side and rear surround. Take the sound of your home theater setup to the next level with our optional L900 Legend height module . It supports new home theater technologies, including Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS:X, DTS:X Virtual, IMAX Enhanced and Auro-3D.
The L900 Legend height module is Dolby Atmos certified and designed to meet the DTS:X specification. In conventional height and top speakers, the tweeter and woofer are oriented vertically, which reduces the optimal listening area and can be disappointing for the listener. Thanks to the horizontal orientation of the L900 Legend height module , the phase and time alignment of the tweeter and woofer allows for a wide optimal listening area, guaranteeing a truly immersive experience.
SDA-PRO, the new version of SDA technology, incorporates a 15-degree angled display that tilts both the stereo and dimensional arrays. By tilting the screen, Polk Audio has improved the quality of stereo arrays by orienting them more precisely toward the listener (such as when manually orienting a pair of speakers). This also allows the speaker to be narrower (reducing the width by 25%), while maintaining the correct position and width of the dimensional array. To improve interaural crosstalk cancellation (IAC), we have improved the bandwidth of the dimensional array to more fully match the relevant IAC frequencies by using paired tweeters in addition to paired midrange woofers. The L800 also uses special "Head Shadow" filters in the dimensional matrix to achieve a more exact adaptation to the IAC (and therefore cancel it).
Sound quality depends on the source. To accommodate your investment in DSD, FLAC, or a high-resolution streaming service, the Polk Legend L800 is Hi-Res certified, ensuring your favorite songs will be reproduced faithfully. Trust the Polk Legend series to reproduce every detail of every track.
It comes with a grille to cover the front of the screen and another for the top to cover the optional height module when it is installed. It is computer modeled to achieve a precise fit and minimize acoustic interference. Acoustically inert magnetic grilles offer a clean aesthetic without altering the sound.
The two large screw terminals with a wide separation between them guarantee direct, efficient and safe connections while allowing both bi-wired and bi-amplified connections to be made.
Designed to provide optimal stability and support on the floor, the speaker tower legs are designed for carpets, but include a rubber boot for hard floors. Additionally, they are adjustable so that the speaker can be leveled or tilted according to the user's preferences.
Each Legend L800 model (LC and RC) is supplied with a 12-inch interconnect cable. This cable allows you to connect the two speakers together so that each SDA speaker can cancel out unwanted signals from the other. More interconnection cables can be purchased on the market.
Polk Audio has been designing, engineering and delivering speakers, sound bars and active speakers with extraordinary sound quality for over 45 years. Polk designs, prototypes, tests and listens to every aspect of its speakers at its engineering facility located in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. From innovations in tweeter design to legendary SDA (Stereo Dimensional Array) speakers, Polk Audio delivers great sound that everyone can access.
The Legend series of speakers are built to last. Offers an exceptional 5-year limited warranty.
The Polk Legend Series employs the next generation of Polk's patented SDA technology, Enhanced Power Port technology, and Polk's latest specially designed speakers and tweeters, all Atmos-ready towers. With unparalleled sound imaging, detail and bass response, the Legend Series is perfect for stereo listening or home theater. Equipped with the new Pinnacle tweeter, turbine cone, Enhanced Power Port technology and SDA-HS, the Legend series turns your living room into a live rock concert, a modern movie theater or a private jazz club.
More than 40 years of creating tweeter innovations, designs and prototypes have led to the creation of the new Pinnacle 2.5-centimeter ring radiator high-definition tweeter. Developed by Polk Audio, this tweeter provides extremely clear and crisp highs, without unwanted coloration or distortion. The Pinnacle tweeter employs a precisely tuned waveguide that significantly improves the dispersion of high-frequency energy to provide a wide optimal listening area, while the carefully damped rear chamber helps eliminate any unwanted resonance. High-resolution certified, the Pinnacle tweeter is designed for today's two-channel music listening, as well as multi-channel 3D sound for music content, movies, sports and video game soundtracks.
Polk has developed the new turbine cone specifically for the Legend series to ensure natural reproduction of the mid frequencies, to which our ears are so sensitive. The turbine cone combines Polk's exclusive foam core and molded turbine geometry, which significantly improves stiffness and damping, without increasing mass. The result is a smooth, detailed midrange and natural bass. You hear every detail.
Polk has optimized its famous Power Port technology specifically for the Legend series, fine-tuning the port's flared geometry. The difference is heard and felt; Polk's Enhanced Power Port® technology produces less port noise and stronger, clearer bass than traditional ported speakers. Two long-excursion, long-throw woofers provide deep, detailed, natural bass for music and home theater.
In Polk's opinion, speakers should be attractive, but they don't add anything to the playback. Polk Legend Series fixtures, mounts, and internal structures are carefully designed to minimize unwanted internal standing waves and eliminate unwanted resonances. The result is an enclosure that firmly holds the speakers and allows for faithful reproduction of recordings.
From the first handcrafted enclosures in 1972 to today's new series of reference speakers, Polk has been designing natural wood enclosures for over 45 years. Born from our legacy, the Legend series maintains this tradition with the classic design of a high-performance speaker. It is available in two natural wood veneer finishes: brown walnut and black ash.
